Q: iPod Touch not showing up in iTunes and showing up as a 'camera' on computer (The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created with a newer version of iTunes )

I was having trouble finding a solution. I had tried every troubleshooting answer I found and I had not found an answer. through a few steps and trial and error. This is a solution to help others in need who may be having the same issues. For starters I am running on a Lenovo Laptop B50-30 Touch for those of you out there who are curious. I am also using a 1st Gen iPod touch version 1.1.4 (4A102), which is running on an iOS 1.1 which made no sense to me until I found ....

^^ This site will answer your update and iPod/iPhone/iPad and version questions. It will give versions and the update possibilities. Very well presented site. Also, I have found ....

>> https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1037?locale=en_US <<  This is the download version you will be looking for on apples' website, which is an apple site with a download for a lower version of iTunes 9.1.1 and this WORKED!!!!. (I AM BY NO MEANS A COMPUTER WIZARD BUT I AM DETERMINED TO FIND SOLUTIONS!!)

iTunes 9.1.1 for Windows (32 and 64 bit)

BEFORE INSTALLING iTunes UNINSTALL NEWEST VERSION

-Uninstall your current version of iTunes first and foremost!!

Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features

-I would order your programs in order of 'Name' for this next part for uninstalling iTunes properly

Proper uninstallation was found through one of apples support pages >> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204275 <<

Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

  1. iTunes
  2. Apple Software Update
  3. Apple Mobile Device Support
  4. Bonjour
  5. Apple Application Support 32-bit
  6. Apple Application Support 64-bit

The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created with a newer version of iTunes

After realizing your iTunes version 12, 13, etc. does not play or recognize your iPod and have lost all hope you might get a error message like this along the way. if so... This conversation from the website below has an answer from "esthermalka" and "mjcm" that seemed to be a lifesaver but I am going to write the way it worked for ME as well just above this website link because the directions were confusing to me... (If one of these directions is confusing, try the next one!)...

- Close iTunes

- Go to iTunes Folder through "File Explorer" by doing the following:

This PC > Music > iTunes

- There should then be another folder in this menu simply called "iTunes" (never mind the quotes, don't overthink it)

- Then oddly enough just drag this folder to the desktop, so that it's no longer part of this folder

- Finally, open your version 9.1.1 iTunes (make sure QuickTime player is installed along with iTunes, which should download together)

I Hope your troubles are over! I took a lot of time to make this helpful I hope and if this last step did not work then try reading below maybe that makes more sense because that's where I found the last step. GOOD LUCK!

I downloaded iTunes 11, had serious issues with it, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled iTunes 10.7. Now I'm getting this error. Anyone know what's going on?

Close iTunes

Goto your iTunes folder

it's either under:

- My Documents\My Music\iTunes\

- \Users\username\Music\iTunes\

(Make sure that it's right one by looking at the Time & Date of the FIle (should be the same, as the last time you closed itunes)

Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.

Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.

Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).

Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).

Rename this file to iTunes Library.

    Open iTunes
