Apple DVD player error 301

Please help!

I just bought an external firewire DVD player and have been trying to get the Apple DVD player to work for hours. Every time I launch it I get "This Machintosh does not support the Appple DVD player - error 301".

I've turned off the toast extensions.

When I try to re-install the Apple DVD player I get a message saying it cannot be installed on this machine.

Izzy Maxwell...

That error is consistent with lack of hardware support for your external player. For the most part Apple DVD Player is really meant to support internal drives of DVD opticals provided by Apple. However, in my case, I chose an internal DVD player replacement that was close enough to work inside my eMac. (it doesn't burn all that well from Mac OS 9, but the Apple DVD Player installed without issues)

I suggest looking for DVD software that supports external opticals or getting an internal DVD optical that is "Apple" supported. Beyond that, maybe others have some tricks I haven't came across with, and they may chime in with those.
