Q: ORF files blanked out in Photos

I have migrated to Photos having previously used Aperture and before that iPhotos. In Photos many, but not all, ORF files (Olympus Raw Files) are blanked out. This problem did not exist in Aperture or iPhotos. I have discussed this with Apple Support (case 1031059591) who could not offer a solution. They suggested I wait for the next Photos update, which might or might not provide a solution!

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

FileVault turned off and hard drive decrypted. Photo library repaired using command and option keys. Problem still persists.

Did you already install the MacOS X 10.11.3 update?  Did that change anything?

Then try this again, now that the library has been repaired and is decrypted:

Try rotating the thumbnails 90º one direction and then 90º back.  See if that will recover the thumbnails.

You can select multiple thumbnails at once and enter ⌘R  followed by ⌥⌘R to rotate them back and forth.

The other thing to try is to change the permissions on the library itself in the "File > Get Info" panel for the library and to enable "Apply to enclosed items":  Ctrl-click the Photos Library, select Show Package Contents, then select the Masters Folder and enter ⌘I  .  In the Info panel unlock the Permissions section, click the gears icon and select "Apply to enclosed items".  Repeat for the other folders as well.

Repairing works better, if the permissions for all enclosed items have been reset.

Have you checked, if the photos in question are having the same problem in Aperture on your current system? If not, try to migrate the Apertur elibrary again.

Aperture and iPhotos have been deleted. The only reason I use Photos is to enable me to see my photographs on a large TV screen via Apple TV. I have Lightroom and have started to go though the process of identifying the blanked photographs in Photos, locating them in Lightroom, exporting them to a desktop folder, then importing them to Photos. Tedious but it's a fix that, so far, is working. I'm just hoping that Photos doesn't decide at some point to blank them out again.
