ipod 1st gen won't reinstall

ipod1st genwas wiped during a reinstall, but the reinstall won't complete. Trying to reinstall from older versions of a macbook pro and itunes. How do I get itunes to reinstall 1st gen software backon to the ipod?

iPod touch, Mac OS X (10.7.5), itunes 11.1.4

It shows that it is extracting new software and then gives this error: "The ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)." The ipod was wiped during what was suppose to be just a resync to change out music. There was no indication of a problem before and this same config has synced with the ipod before.The attempt to reinstall is to repair whatever caused the ipod to be wiped to begin with. Running OS 10.7.5 with itunes 11.1.4. I have rebooted.

- Place the iPod in DFU mode and then restore

- Try on another computer

- Try another cable

- Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
