enlarging scanned pictures

my wife is building a photo book--I scanned in about 30 pictures of all sizes but at 600 dpi----I then imported them into my Photos app--how can I make them bigger like 4x6 or 5x7 and then insert them into my project book?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

what size are the original photos? What are pixel dimensions of the scanned photos? What exactly is the problem? What are you doing and what is not working?

Remember we can not see you so you have to provide all relevant details and workflow info

The most general answer is to place the photo in a 4x6 or 5x7 photo frames in the book - digital images are not sized in inches, only in pixels - the inches come when you print them

Photos ignores the dpi when adding photos to a book. Only the pixel size matters. Do your photos have enough pixels to fill a 5x7 photo frame?

The photo should have at least a width of 1000 and a height of 1400 pixels to be printed at 5x7 inches.

Or do you mean by "dpi 600" you scanned the photo with a width of no more than 600 pixels?

Then try the Online Image Enlarger: See this link: Online Image Enlarger

It will increase the pixel size of the photo without reducing the sharpness.

If you really used the 6000dpi scan setting you can simply use your photos as they are. The photo books need only 200dpi for a decent print.

If you have a 3x3 inches photo scanned at 600 dots per inch, your photo has 1800x1800 pixels. Apple's photo books will print it at 6x6 in the book without a loss in quality. You could put it also into a 9x9 photo box, since the 9x9 version will still have 200 dpi.

The photo books in Photos will scale the photo so it fits into the photo boxes, and all is fine, as long as you are not seeing an triangles with an exclamation mark on some of the pages.

If you are not certain, if your photos have enough pixels, open the info panel for a photo. select it in Photos and click the ℹ button in the toolbar or use the key combination⌘I . The Info panel is showing the pixel size - width and height. divide the width and height in pixels by 200 and you will know the maximum width in inches that you photo can be printed in a book. My photo below could be printed at roughly 13.5 inches times 18.2 inches.
