Strange hard drive crashes

Yesterday my MBP crashed, and would not start up. I was able to get it to boot from disk, where the Disk Utility showed no hard drive present. Today, it started up normally. Is there any way to fix this without just replacing it?

It seems like an hardware failure... Replace it.

We had a MBP with an 160 GB hard drive fail TWICE! The first disk went out and we thought it might be the disk. Then the second disk went out as well. It was impossible to mount the disk on any computer. I am not sure the FirmWare update was done. Is there a heating issue? SmallDog.com said that the FirmWare update would also address heating issues.
