Q: Asked for debit card at McDonald's uk till, didn't have it, am I still charged

At McDonald's (uk) after using Apple Pay which appeared to be successful (tick appears on screen) the person at the till said that the till required me to use my debit card which I did not have on me and so didn't receive any of the order, am I still charged for this or am I safe in assuming that the transaction is void?

It appears as a recent transaction in the wallet app still!

    Hi

If the payment terminal did not register the transaction, you will not be charged.

If your payment failed, the terminal would have advised the merchant accordingly - and your side of the payment terminal would not have confirmed successful completion.

To confirm that the payment failed, contact your bank or refer to your bank statement (perhaps online). You may also wish to ask your bank why the payment did not go through.

You can also report your failed transaction to Apple. The form enables you to report issues with specific merchants, transactions and payment cards, so can be helpful in enabling Apple to identify and investigate issues:

I believe the tick on the screen simply indicates that your phone transmitted your card details to the terminal. It does not mean the transaction has gone through. You can only be sure that the transaction has been completed if the terminal display says "Authorised".
