IPhone 6 IOS 9.2.1 No Service - regularly iPhone shows "No Service" even though usage is in high signal area. Must reboot to get back service. Is this a known issue? Any fix?

Regularly get "No Service" indicator in strong signal area. Only remedy is to reboot unit. Then service indicator will show full signal strength. When "No Service" of course I get no calls or messages. Very frustrating to need to regular,y look at my phone to see if I have service even though I know signal is strong. Is this a known issue? Any fix other than constant review and reboot when "No Service". BTW my android friends have no such issue when we physically socialize together. My iPhone is now the butt of many jokes. Not funny to me.

Hi! Have you tried the steps below?

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

If this does not help, restore your device to factory settings. Note that this will erase the data from your device.

Take a look this Apple Support article: Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

As a final step, try the recovery mode. Turn your device off, then plug it to your computer with the home button pressed. Keep the Home button pressed until you see the iTunes logo on the screen of your device. After that on your computer you should see the iTunes window saying your device needs to be restored to factory settings. Click on the restore button.

If these steps don't work, contact Apple and ask for help. Maybe it's a hardware issue (for example, with antenna etc.).

"Press and hold ... til Apple logo" is what I mean by reboot. Since after rebooting I get full bars, the issue is with Apple not the service provider. The Vulcan Nerve Pinch seems a bit drastic and potentially data losing. I bought the iphone for a phone. Otherwise I would buy an itouch or ipad. A unit that can't take advantage of a strong signal isn't a phone. Maybe a new IOS will fix the issue. Factory reset is not a "solution". It is "I give up" and hope it doesn't happen again.

I live in Finland. Downloaded iOS 9.2.1, and now my iPhone 5s won't connect when using 4G or 3G. Can't call, can't receive calls. Apple, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! Last time you had a bad update, I COULDN'T USE ITUNES OR APPLE MUSIC OR MAIL! Now, I can't call or receive calls! What next? Buy a new iPhone where you have taken out everything else except weather and calendar? This is too much for me. Last Apple product for me. And, before people say it's my operator, no, it is not. I have full bars, and everything works when I turn 2G on. Problems start when turning my phone 3G or 4G.

hi

i am in bangalore, india. and am facing the same problem. the only diff is that the no service messages keeps appearing and disappearing intermittently. in the brief interval that the carrier name appears (in my case it is airtel) - one cant make any calls etc. - it just comes and goes randomly - only it is gone more than it appears.

also i happened to see the following text where airtel (the mobile carrier) is supposed to appear - "404-65" - and then the network got switched off - and no service appeared again. so techies in this group or ios folks looking at this - should get some hint.

BTW all this started after i said ok to a message that said - there are updated carrier settings - cancel or accept. As always one says ok to these things isnt it?

this is clearly a 9.2.1 problem (and not a local carrier problem) bcos i have a older iphone with 7.1.2 - which is working fine in all teh same places...

BTW another update from my side. weirdly what is happening is that when i switch the sim cards between my older iphone (running 7.1.2) and iphone 5 (running 9.2.1) - both phones are working fine!!

so now i think the problem is with the Sim card - the 9.2.1 must have changed settings on the sim card - which, for whatever reason doesnt seemto affect 7.1.2 but affects 9.2.1

go figure!!

anyway i going to try to get a new sim card for the iphone 5 and if that works fine - then that will settle it.

Just created an account because I want to add that I am also having the same problem. Phone is 1 month old. Have had absolutely no issues until 9.2.1. Would suddenly lose service and often present "Not Activated" messages. Restoring a backup to see if that helps.

This was quite frustrating considering I had to travel across the country and my boarding pass was on the phone. Considering going back to my $25 Android - it was horrible but at least it worked as a phone.

I don't really care if it's a hardware or software problem at this point. Either way they've lost a potential customer.

Wanted to update:
Rolled back to 9.2.1 with Verizon settings 23.0.1 - updated to 23.2. For a minute, I thought that helped, then the problem came back.

So here's the thing: if hold the top and bottom of the phone and twist it gently, or if I pinch the bottom right corner with my thumb pushing hard on the back, my signal INSTANTLY comes back.

Did some research and found that the LTE/CDMA antennas are down in the bottom corner and have contacts that rely on them being seated properly. My guess is that the antenna is either loose or defective. There's obviously a loose connection somewhere.

Might pop the screen out and reseat the antenna, see how that goes. I'm not impressed, though - $700 is a lot of money to pay for a phone with loose connections.

I should add that since I broke my screen on day 2 of ownership and had to get the entire phone replaced, I've been excruciatingly careful with it. It's had an otterbox on it since the second I bought it and hasn't been dropped once. I rarely ever even leave the house with it.
