Speed up video beyond 2x

Why is iMovie for iOS still limited to speeding up video by only 2x? Surely new iOS devices like the iPhone 6S could support increasing the speed to at least 8x.

3rd party apps like Hyperlapse support increasing the speed up to 12x.
