Setting Up An Apple Watch without iPhone

I have an Apple Watch Sport 38mm that I bought 2 days ago but I don't have an iPhone 5 or above. I read online that you can use an apple watch without an iPhone but only get basic features. This doesn't matter so I bought an apple watch. When I was setting up the apple watch it said to pair to an iPhone but I can't. Is there a way to skip the pairing in set up or do I have to buy an iPhone?

Hi

I'm afraid not - you need an iPhone 5 or later running iOS 9 or later to set up Apple Watch.

It cannot be set up, paired or synced independently or using any other iOS (including iPad) or other Apple devices.
