Apple TV Remote Not Causing Apple TV to Select, Play, etc.

For about the last week, when I click any of the buttons on my AppleTV remote, all that happens is the little white light on the Apple TV blinks three times. Nothing else happens. The selection on the screen does not change when I click the directional arrows. The select button does not cause the highlighted choice to be activated, etc. I've tried rebooting the Apple TV via unplugging it. Have not been able to solve the problem. Thank you for your help!
