Bad picture when through the receiver? Fine when connect directly to tv?

I've now tried two Apple TV' s and two brand new receivers and the apple tv's don't seem to play nice with the receiver - when switched thru a receiver the picture is staticky but when plugged in directly to TV it's fine. My old Apple TV through both receivers work fine. Anyone have idea's or know what could be happening here - I'm current switching my DVD player, my X1 cable box, and Apple TV thru a Yamaha Aventage receiver - everything works except for the new Apple TV signal. Thoughts?'
