import a WAV file into iTunes?

Can someone explain to me how to import a WAV file into iTunes? I'm dragging it in, right/option clicking on the file and going - open in iTunes but nothing happens and I can't play it or do anything with it. Thanks

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

A good way to make sure something added to iTunes library does not "get lost" in your iTunes library is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library. You can call it something like Import (or whatever you want). Show it using the Songs view (plain song list with columns).

To add a song to iTunes library, open a Finder window showing the song files (or the folder containing the song files). Drag the song files or folder from the Finder window and drop on the iTunes window, on the Import playlist. The song is added to your iTunes library AND to this playlist, so you can see it on the playlist, and edit the song's information as desired.

I have been trying this file for a week now and it's still not importing.

I search for it in iTunes and it just won't appear.

Could the file be broken or corrupt or something?

If it is a music WAV with typical encoding, iTunes should handle it fine.

However, be aware that iTunes frequently has problems with the low bitrate WAVs that come from voice recorders. If that is the situation, use a 3rd party converter to convert to MP3 or AAC for use in iTunes.

Did you try my suggestion of dragging it from a Finder window to an empty playlist in iTunes? If the song file has unexpected song info, it may be "getting lost" in your music library, and you can't search for it if the song info is not what you expect. When you drag it to a playlist instead of the overall music library, the song is added to the library AND it appears on the playlist. If nothing appears on the playlist, that song file is either bad or not compatible with iTunes.

The same happens with Recently Added as I suggested. It should appear at the top of the list as long as it is sorted by date added.
