Ever since updating my Macbook Pro to Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.3, I've been experiencing frequent unexpected restarts.

It typically occurs when several web browser tabs are open at once where I'm streaming video and surfing image / animated GIF heavy sites.

Italicized below is the thrown error message. What is the methodology to troubleshoot? Note: I already updated to the latest OS version, and ran "First Aid" Disk Utility.app (no maladies were detected), but to no avail.

Hello jerome244,

It sounds like your MacBook Pro is giving you kernel panics. Thanks for running Disk First Aid and insuring you are update.

The methodology to troubleshoot kernel panics is detailed in this article.

OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem." - Apple Support

It sounds like you will want to focus on software troubleshooting.

Please let us know how it goes, jerome.

Hi Marniks,

After running a fresh install of OS X, the kernal panic errors subsided, but a few days later my screen started to flicker, freeze, then restart. I knew then it was a hardware issue which I couldn't fix myself.

I brought it to a genius bar and they concluded the logic board needed to be replaced. I am not sure if there was a correlation with the original kernal panic error, or completely unrelated. Regardless, it cost $300 to send out for repair as it was out of warranty and did not qualify for the repair extension program (check out this link to see if you might qualify for a free fix: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/).

So far, my Macbook is free of any defects.

Good luck!
