Q: iPhone 4S battery life.

Hi guys,

I had my iPhone battery replaced about 18 months ago. Now, I fully charge it overnight (In flight mode) and take it off charge in the morning at 100% (Still in flight mode). By 5.00pm it will be at 1-5% without me touching it all day! I always close my apps.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated!

Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.

Try to force restart the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by doing this, but it can cure some glitches.

If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

I have tried everything! I only use my phone to make calls and send messages. There is about 3-4 apps on my phone. I have also done a reset and still no better,.

In case you use iCloud syncing for contacts, try to switch off "contacts" in iCloud, tap on "Yes" if asked to keep the info on the phone, force restart the device and compare the battery life.

Another reason for your battery drain could be the Mail app, if set to push/fetch. Sometimes the app gets stuck, trying to connect to the mail server over and over again, causing the battery to drain.

Did you have a look at the list of apps that use your battery the most? Check by going to Settings/Battery/Usage

Also, if Usage and Standby times are equal, there is some constant background activity, draining your battery.
