Need a "normal" checkbox for listing

I'm working on a book, and need a normal square black outline checkbox for listing. Four 90-degree angles, sides of equal length, boring old 1-point line. You know. A square.

Apple has adorable checkboxes that look like a kid drew them with a pencil, but I'm not going for adorable. I see where I can import a custom image, but don't know what's needed in terms of file size or format.

Seems like a normal square isn't too much to ask for. Mac Word has it, but I prefer the less distracting interface of Pages. Is there an easy way to make this happen?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

From the Pages Edit menu, select the last menu item, it will be Special Characters… or Emoji's & Symbols, depending on the release of OS X that you are using. This will launch the Character viewer panel. In its search box, type “ballot box” without the quotes. That will return the following Unicode characters that you can just double-click to insert into your Pages document. Searching for “square” will return additional boxes that may be useful.
