How to use "cover flow" view in a file open dialog?

I often post images, such as screen shots, to the Web--such as the one I'm including here!

I always use "cover flow" as an aid to make sure I'm uploading the one I mean to load.

In El Capitan, I see "cover flow" in the Finder, but not in a file open dialog. How do I access "cover flow" view in file open dialogs? Do I need to use a preference somewhere to add it to the toolbar, or what?

I'm sorry, but you didn't answer my question, and your suggested fix didn't work. In the Finder, every window has a "view" gadget in the toolbar, and it offers four choices, including Cover Flow. That hasn't changed.

The problem occurs in any File Open dialog from within an application. In a File Open dialog, it shows a view resembling a Finder window, but in File Open it shows only three choices instead of four: Icon view, list view, column view, but no Cover Flow view.

Please follow these directions: Preview, File, Open. Then tell me what you see. I see a three-option View gadget, with no Cover Flow option.

Just to be sure, I followed your directions. I used Customize Toolbar. I removed the View gadget completely. I opened a new window to make sure it had "taken:" no View gadget. I Customized Toolbar again. Added the View gadget back. Opened a new window: View gadget is there, with all four choices.

I then performed a File, Open from within an application. Again, there is only a three-choice View gadget.

Before I send Feedback to Apple, I'd like to know what's going on.

1) Esquared says Apple has removed Cover Flow from file dialogs. I read the thread Esquared pointed me to but it didn't really shed any light, other than to confirm that others are experiencing the problem, and are assuming that Apple removed the Cover Flow option and that it is not available in El Capitan.

2) Eau Rouge is not seeing the problem, so it is available--to him/her--in El Capitan.

Esquared, what do you see yourself? Do you see Cover Flow in Preview, File, Open, as in Eau Rouge's screen shot, or are you seeing the three-choice View gadget, as in my screen shot?

Can I assume we are all running 10.11.2?
