Last night I cleared out some space from my Macbook Pro 2.8ghz i7 and currently have 250 gb available.
If you click the apple at the top left > about this mac > storage
it displays that I have 102.7 gb free.
Nothing critical here, I'm just curious why it is wrong.

I'm downloading the 10.11.3 update now. Maybe that will fix this.
sometimes reindexing spotlight helps.
The purple backups are time machine local backups. They are saved locally then transferred to your external hard drive when its reconnected and time machine runs. Sometimes they don't.

You can clear them out.
You may notice a difference in available space statistics between Disk Utility, Finder, and Get Info inspectors. This is expected and can be safely ignored. The Finder displays the available space on the disk without accounting for the local snapshots, because local snapshots will surrender their disk space if needed.
