    Hi

    To credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk. When you are not using the Workout app, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track this, so allow your arm to swing naturally as you walk (or run).

    No progress will be credited to the Exercise ring for any minutes during which your activity is below that level of intensity. The definition of a brisk walk varies from person to person and depends upon their personal information.

    For the best results from the Activity app and Workout app, check that your personal information is accurate (and keep it updated over time):

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch tab > Health > Edit.

    Calibrating your watch will also help to improve the accuracy of various estimations (including Exercise credit) made by the Activity app and Workout app. Instructions for how to calibrate your watch are available via the link below.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info. If I understood correctly by using the Workout and Activity app for some time the Apple watch will automatically improve the accuracy, is that correct? Also, someone at Apple store told me that the watch should be tight in the wrist to have the sensors working properly, is it true?

    thanks again

    Calibration can help to improve the accuracy of various health and activity-related estimations made by the Workout app and Activity App.

    Calibration takes place when:

    - You use the Workout app for Outdoor Walk or Outdoor Run workouts;

    - You take your iPhone with you, with both Bluetooth (so it remains connected to your watch) and Location Services enabled.

    Calibration helps Apple Watch to learn your stride length. It does this by combining knowledge of how you move (using data from the watch's accelerometer) with knowledge of distances covered (using the Location Services / GPS feature on your iPhone).

    When using the Workout app, for the best results from the heart rate sensor (data from which is used when estimating calories), wear your watch snugly on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening your watch band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards. This will also help to prevent your watch from losing contact with your wrist during workouts, which can cause your workout to be paused automatically.
