Q: How do I use the smart keyboard without also having the on-screen keyboard taking up half the screen ?

I was under the impression that the smart keyboard would free up some screen space but the software screen shows up whenever I need to type something even with the smart keyboard attached.  Is there a way to turn off the on-screen keyboard when the smart keyboard is in use?
