MacBook Air and Targus Remote

Hi,

I have a MacBook Air, both apple remotes (white and silver) and Targus Bluetooth Presenter for Mac (AMP11) and would like to make any of these devices control VLC or iTunes, since Air doesn't have the IR receiver I'm leaning more on the Targus side, it works on mouse mode, but doesn't control VLC in remote mode. I also tried remapping keys using Karabiner, didn't work too. Please help, I'm clueless.
