Apple TV remote won't turn on TV anymore

My new Apple TV (4) remote was working just fine the other day and now suddenly it won't turn on my TV anymore. It still controls the TV volume and is able to turn off both the Apple TV and my Samsung television just fine. I'm just stuck having to turn it on with the Samsung remote every time now and then doing the rest with the Apple TV remote--it outright defeats the purpose of this new Apple TV universal remote. Help. How do I get my remote turning ON my TV again? Any insights?
