setup imessage on ios 6.1.6

iPod Touch on version 6.1.6. I've created an icloud account for my daughter and I've successfully added this to the iPod. However on setting up iMessage I go round in a circle between the 1st screen of entering the apple id (icloud). When I click sign in, 2nd screen after the p/w the email address is the same as the icloud id. A tick is next to this icloud email address, I cannot edit so I click next and end up back on the first screen. No error messages. Can you advise next steps pls?

Thanks Illaass for the time to reply. I managed to get an email address on the apple id. After an ipod reboot this then appeared when setting up iMessage. Unfortunately trying various combinations on the 2nd step of icloud and/or yahoo email address, still resulting in returning back to the 1st step of entering apple id, p/w & click Sign In....

1 hr later with Apple Support and now sorted. Turns out imessage doesn't work (well) with an icloud email address/apple id and you can only get an icloud apple id for children under 13. Needed to use my apple id for imessage and then add my daughter's email address to the send/receive email addresses (& deselect mine)
