Q: I'm using Photos to make a calendar, and when I add national holidays and have a personal calendar already selected for importing, the national holidays replace a personal date when the two entries conflict.  Any suggestions?

I'm using Photos to make a calendar and when I import two Mac calendars, I can't get them to play well together.  For example, if I add the national holiday calendar to a personal calendar already selected for importing, the national holidays replace a personal date when the two entries conflict.  Users are permitted multiple items to show on a particular date (I can add an additional item manually; and if I have two items in a personal calendar, they both import just fine).  Doesn't seem to matter if I import sequentially or simultaneously, the national holidays always seem to take precedence over personal items.  I'm proud of my country, but want to avoid adding those dates back in manually (and avoid having to check everything so closely).

Any suggestions?  Thanks,

John

There's no way to have both of the separate calendars added and share a date.  Tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

You could create a new calendar in Calendar with the personal birthdays and the holidays.  I think that would do the trick except for those holidays that might change the date depending on when if fell, i.e. Memorial Day for one.

Nice concept, OT.  This process has a few steps but seems to work:

    1) export original personal calendar from Calendar.

    2) export US Holidays calendar from Calendar (I couldn't find a way to export/merge in one step).

    3) set up a new 2016 calendar.

    4) import original personal calendar, then import/add Holidays calendar to that new 2016 calendar.

    5) use new calendar in Photos...

In looking past 2016, Google agreed with the 2017 dates shown for Easter and tax day (Apr17) so perhaps I don't need to do the Export/Import/Merge process for 2017 and the years beyond, but I'm not ready to stand behind that conclusion yet.

    Thanks!
