Q: battery drain on macbook after ram upgrade

I've got a late 2008 unibody macbook - just upgraded to 8g ram (2x4) cuz running El Capitan - things are humming along great now but as soon as I put the new ram in the battery drains like CRAZY - down from 98% to 53% in the hour I've been on it this morning.

any ideas of how to address this?

Thanks - I just tried it and my battery meter, which wouldn't go up to 100% before (since I did the upgrade) just did that after I disconnected it from power - so hopefully that worked - I'll let you know in a few.
