Jan 24, 2016 11:00 AM in response to Jessica Ruckby lllaass,Does the drive says it work with a Mac?
Did you place a readable DVD in the drive with you opened the DVD player app?
Is the drive powered by the USB bus? Or by an AC power adopter?
Sometimes USB does not provide enough power.
When connected does the drive show under USB is System Profiler?

Jan 24, 2016 12:30 PM in response to Jessica Ruckby lllaass,A BluRay player uses the HDMI port to output to a monitor/TV. The HDMI port on a Mac is output only. It can't receive HDMI output from any device.

Jan 24, 2016 1:31 PM in response to Jessica Ruckby MoreBikesFewerCars,This will not work. The MacBook is not a TV/monitor.
However, you can buy an inexpensive external USB DVD drive, plug it in and fire up the DVD application.
I have a USB external DVD player / CD burner that I use with several different Macs. You can get a decent one for US$20 - US$30 if you're in the USA.

Jan 24, 2016 3:05 PM in response to Jessica Ruckby Johnb-one,again, I have to echo what everyone else has said here... It won't work. There are certain models of imac that it will work on, but this isn't one of those.
Also, your Mac will not recognize Blu Ray discs or a Blu Ray drive without 3rd party software, so, if you can, find a usb dvd drive that may work with Macs and use that for now....shouldn't be too expensive
