Upgraded MacBook Air OSX 10.8 to 10.11 (El Capitan) and Contacts missing.

Just upgraded my iMac and wife's MacBook Air from OSX 10.8 to 10.11 (El Capitan). Contacts on MacBook Air are now missing (Contacts on iMac came through upgrade okay). What can be done to retrieve wife's MacBook Air missing Contacts so they are present in El Capitan?

OS X El Capitan (10.11), iMac, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air

Found solution in the following that corrected the problem of missing Contacts following upgrade to OS X 10.11. Thank you, Barney 15-E!

Even if you were not using iCloud, turn on iCloud Contacts and see if they reappear.
