Q: How Do I Format Mac Pro 12 Core 2012 To Original OS?

My friend has a Mac Pro 12 Core 2012 The model is MD771LL/A. I know it's 4 years old but how do I format it to it's original operating system?

Original one was Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion.

Do I need a product key? To reformat?

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Apple Mac OS X

Click here and follow the instructions. No product key or other authentication is needed when restoring the original OS.

Wow no way? No product key?

Amazing Cause Windows is so complex always wants a product key.

So I can format thousands of times if it crashes or replacing the HD

You only need to follow that particular procedure ONCE, to get the "generic" "ships in the box" original software back, unless you have a complete disaster.

After that, you can install and re-install any later version that your "Purchased" (even for $0) using YOUR "Purchases" page (tied to YOUR Apple-ID) in the Mac App Store.

The Installer places a small hidden partition on the Boot Drive named Recovery_HD, and that can be used for Installing or Utilities if the main Hard Drive is damaged so that booting is impossible.

You can also save time for re-installing by making a USB thumb-drive that contains the Installer (8GB or larger thumb drive required) using a free program named DiskMakerX. The software saved on the thumb drive is also tagged with your Apple-ID. Your Apple-ID password may be required, so that Installer may not work if passed out to others.
