Garage Band crackling and popping

Hi. I have popping and crackling when I record on the latest version (Jan 2016) of Garage Band. I have just switched from the 2008 version which never had an issue of any type, same instruments, same Yamaha Audiogram 5 interface. It's not the metronome or count-in feature, it's too random for that, and the regularity does not match the fridge switching on or off. It's really disappointing as the quality of the program outside of this is excellent, can anyone please help? I'm using a 2008 iMac and it happens in real instrument tracks, I've also checked/switched all the leads and used different guitars.

Thanks

David

OK, I've solved it for now. I called Apple Support and he took me through a reset operation that was a bit involved, but has worked. It essentially restarts and resets the entire system to bring the CPU and sound cards to maximum potential capacity to work. I then opened up activity monitor while I was recording and with 4 tracks it took my CPU activity to about 50%, still with some room (no drum tracks as yet). What I also notice was that the data I was sending in from my guitar did not register in the app for almost a second, so I really think my system is working harder than it should. So, check your CPU usage while you record, then call in to reset the system then try recording again. It has worked for now with me and saved me buying a new iMac, for now.....
