Q: Can I copy backup files to a different computer in order to restore an iPhone from new iTunes?

itunes 12.3.2 freezes when iPhone 6 Plus is connected and I need to restore the phone using last backup. The phone is not set up for WiFi sync so I'm hoping I can transfer the backup files to a different computer and restore from there. Iphone is new and running 9.2.1. Computer is running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional (SP1).

Of course, any help in getting iTunes to work would be helpful as well, but I would like to be syncing to a different computer anyway.

Hello Doug,

I understand that you have two questions, one for moving your backup files to another computer to restore from and another to get iTunes to not freeze when plugged in. Let's go over both answers.

As far as the freezing issue with iTunes when you plug in your iPhone, I would start with disabling automatic syncing within iTunes. Open up iTunes Preferences and go to the Devices tab and make sure that Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically is checked. Another thing to look at is to disable any iTunes plug-ins as a test to see if that is the cause. Take a look at the next article for more specific details on this issue.
