iPhoto no longer exists. It was Replaced by Photos, which is installed by default.

for the rest of them, they are not pre-installed. They must be downloaded form the Mac App Store.

If you are not getting them for free, sign out of the Mac App Store, and sign back in. That usually makes them be available for download for free.

Do not download them if the Buy option is there, as you will be charged.

Also, you can go to the Up To Date Program if you still cannot get them for free:

http://www.apple.com/creativity-apps/mac/up-to-date/

Starting in October 2014, Apple announced that Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are available free with every qualifying new Mac. If you purchased a qualifying Mac that did not include Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, you can apply for these apps through the Up-To-Date Program by following the steps below.

There are a variety of apps that come preinstalled on the new MacBook Pros (and other apple computers) that are normally paid apps. As soon as you sign into your Apple ID, it will adopt those preinstalled applications to that Apple ID and they will appear as "purchased" in your purchase history. If you were to sign out and sign in with another Apple ID, those apps still belong the the first Apple ID so it will prompt you to enter in the first Apple ID's password whenever you want to update the app. This is obviously an issue for people buying used products, either from Apple (refurbished products) or from non AAR's. Basically the only solution is to contact Apple Support, and contact an iTunes advisor who will be able to issue a code that will allow you to re-download the app with your current Apple ID. Hopefully Apple will find a better way to manage this. But this is how it is right now. Hope that helps.

Putting aside the fact you just responded to a year old thread, I doubt very much it is going to change.

They way it is currently done is by design.

You are only entitled to the free Apps when you buy a new computer. The Apps like Numbers, Pages, iMovie etc.. are not free normally. Its a bonus when buy a new computer.

If you buy a second hand or used computer then there's no reason for you to get the Apps for free. If you have already bought them, or have an Apple ID that got them from the purchase of a new computer then they remain available on the Apple ID that bought them. Otherwise there's no reason to expect the apps for free. You do have to buy them.

Only the first Apple ID that gets used on the new computer is entitled to the free Apps.

On used computers, the previous owner should have wiped it, so no Apps remain on it. If the previous owner did not wipe it completely, this does not mean you get Apps for free. The computer still should be wiped, so nothing remains on it that can be tied to the previous owners Apple ID.

What do you mean over the years? I just bought the latest macbook pro model, days past...not years. And YES it asks me to confirm payment for the purchase of iMovie for example.....

What the.....

I thought you bought a 2015 model, which is not the current one.

Free apps come with new Macs only.

Year old thread. Back in January of 2016 the 2015 model would have been the current one.
