Q: Access files using sftp in Finder

I would like to access my files from my account in my institute cluster. I usually do sftp://userName@hostname in terminal, however when I does the same from Finder > Go > Connect to Server and enter the "sftp://<UserName>@<hostname>", it opens up VLC for authenticaiton, and upon entering the details, VLC crashes. Is there a way I can access these files from Finder?

Using Mac OS X El Capitan

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), iOS 9.2

I have the exact same problem, all the way through VLC crashing, and I too agree this should be integrated. The only resource I can find anyone talking about is Macfusion, which depends on Google MacFUSE which is no longer being maintained since 2009 or so. We are severely lacking in this department.

    Hello,

try again "Finder > Go > Connect to Server" but type "ftps://user@host"

The problem is that VLC is capturing the sftp:// commands while the finder easily opens an ftps:// or smb:// directory.

    I hope this helps.

This doesn't work for me. While I can connect, I only have read permissions for each file/folder even though I am logged in as the owner. I tried sftp (ftps in this case) and still only had read permissions.
