Just recently I noticed when I try to dictate a text message my only option is a voice recording. Not particularly fond of my voice, I don't want this option and want to go back to speaking into my phone and seeing the words typed. Is it possible to fix this?

The microphone is there. After looking at some of my friend's iphones we discovered the microphone where you type no longer works to dictate typing. You have to use the other microphone on the bottom of the keyboard next to the smiley face to dictate now.
I checked this before I posted. Dictation is and was already enabled.
All I get is the option to tap and hold down to send audio. I do not want to send audio.
The audio message button is different than the dictation one, the dictation one should be next to the space bar, is it missing? If it is, try holding the sleep/wake and home button until the Apple logo appears. -AJ
Check Settings>General>Keyboard>Enable dictation. -AJ
