Q: System 6.0.8 Swedish version?

Hello,

I’m restoring my Mac Plus 1mb, but since my keyboard is Swedish, I can’t make full use of my international keyboard with an US-English version (or any other language version for that matter).

Where can I download system 6.0.8 in swedish?

Best regards,

Kristian Möller

    Hello Kristian,

You may want to try a different approach. Use a US System 6 floppy with the Control Panel for a test (such as the 6.0.3 System Tools). If necessary, delete a few files to make room. Download an appropriate keyboard layout (Svensk from keyboards.hqx at http://archive.info-mac.org/_Configuration/ can be used as an example). With another old Mac (something like a System 7.5.3 machine will be fine), move the Swedish keyboard layout into the System file (not merely the System Folder) on the System 6 floppy. Start the Macintosh Plus from the floppy. Open Control Panel. Select Keyboard. You should now see both the US and the Swedish layout. Choose Svensk and check whether you can type ÅÄÖ in TeachText.

    Hello Jan,

I’m not sure. I tried using Font/DA Mover, to move ’Tangentbord’ (Keyboard), from my Swedish system 6.0.5 to a US English 6.0.8, together with the System folder ’Tangentlayout’ (Key layout) and ’Tangentbord’ (Keyboard). It didn’t work.

Next step would be to try your suggestion.

    Kristian,

When I tested the procedure with a US System 6.0.3 System Tools floppy, I did not remove Key layout and Keyboard from the System Folder. The Swedish keyboard layout "Svensk" (from the decoded and decompressed keyboards.hqx download) was merely added to (dragged onto/into) the System file, without the use of any utility. This was done on a System 7.5.3 PowerBook 540. Once on the 68000 Mac, it was then possible to switch to and use a Swedish keyboard.

    Jan,

Sorry for the delay. I have now tried your procedure, but with no luck I’m afraid. I used US System 7.5.5 to open the US System Suitcase 6.0.8.

First I used a slim system, like the ’System Tools floppy’ – that system wouldn't boot at all (flashed happy mac for about 2 seconds).

Second I used a fully installed System for Mac Plus – no problem booting this time, but no keyboard choice either :-(

    Did I miss something?

    Kristian,

A correctly made (from a disk image; using, for example, Disk Copy 4.2) US System 6.0.3 "System Tools" 800K floppy will boot a Macintosh Plus under normal circumstances. This very floppy contains the Control Panel (not always the case with other Utilities floppies). Just a few questions:

I noticed that there was an approx. 100 MB volume in the picture. What type of drive is this?

Is the Control Panel visible under the Apple menu? Do you see Keyboard in the left column in Control Panel?

The operation under System 7.5.5, was that done on the Plus itself or on a separate computer.

    Jan,

    I finally got it! :-)

    Thank you so much!

I don’t know what I did wrong before, but the third time worked like a charm.

The 100 MB volume is Hard Disk 20 emulation (http://www.bigmessowires.com/floppy-emu/) that I use to copy files between the Plus and my MacBook Pro.

The System 7.5.5 operation is done in BasiliskII as a Quadra 650.

The screenshots* are made in the Mac Plus. *The first post screenshot was made in Mini vMac.

    Hello again,

Thank you for the additional information. Good to hear that everything is working. That disk emulator appears to be quite useful.
