multicam insert/connect fails

Hello All,

I am using final cut 10.2.2 on a late 15 iMac retina 5k. I have a project that uses two multicam files (2 different performances of the same theatrical event, I need to edit between them for better/worse performances, etc). This is a brand new machine and the first project I am editing on it.

I already have one instance of both multicam files in my project file, one as the primary storyline and one connected in a storyline above it. I attempt to set in and out points on the 2nd multicam and insert it at a different point, but when I click on insert (or connect or append), I get a pinwheel of death for about 15 seconds and the operation fails (nothing is added to the project timeline).

The problem persists in other project files: i can no longer place these multicam files. I deleted and re-downloaded and installed final cut, and no luck. Should I try to trash my preferences?

Am I doing something wrong? Or any thoughts on how to solve this problem? Thank you very much,

Ben

that's confusing …

you have two (multicam)clips in a project, stacked above each other … ok.

now, you select in the top one a range and 'insert' that? where? how? why? 😉

you shouldn't 'abuse' the secondary as a 'track' …

if you like to insert parts of a clip#2 in a project containing clip#1, you simply select in the Event browser that range and 'add' (connect, append, insert, ..) to the main storyline...

apply a screenshot of your projects timeline .....

btw: how do you manage to synch two theatre plays?? 😕

Hi Karsten, Thank you so much for your reply. Sorry I wrote confusingly. What you describe is exactly what I am trying to do and what fails -- I select an in point and an outpoint in the event browser, and try to add it to the main storyline (my project timeline) and it fails.

My work around is that I already had an instance of one multicam layered over the other (an edit made on a different machine), so I have just extended one multicam file above the other one, disabling it until I need it again, making a blade cut and enabling the part I want.... Basically treating the second multicam clip attached above the primary storyline line like an old 2nd "video track" on fcp 7. Annoying, to say the least.

I managed to complete the edit for now but I am worried that something is corrupted and I will not be able to use multicam files properly, selecting in and out points in the event browser and adding to a project timeline, next time I need to.User uploaded file

nothing to worry about …

I'm just … amused, how many people like to blade in the timeline ....

My question how you 'synch' two theatre plays is unanswered, but it looks like your actors manage to play 'a la minute second'.... 😉

so, have you considered to use ONE Multicam?

containing ALL sources?

instead of stacking & blading, just switch to 4,5,6 ...
