Time capsule slow internet speed connection

I have a 2 TB 5th-gen Airport Time Capsule (802.11 AC) and a TP-LINK TD-8816 ADSL2 modem (bridged) connected to the TC. Over the past few weeks a very slow internet connection was detected (having green light in TC and airport utility)

Obviously I started by judging my ISP but then realized that setting back the modem to PPPoE over Ethernet, the connection reaches expected internet speed ratio.

I reset the TC back to factory default settings (to clear out all the current settings) and set it up again with new, fresh settings. Same results.

For the record: I experienced same slow speed results when testing TC by wireless or ethernet connections.

Airport Time Capsule is running 7.7.3

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

I came back to use the Zyxel modem-router provided by my ISP with optimal internet speed but missing my TC a lot!

Thanks in advance for your support.

I am in the same boat.. there is something seriously wrong with the TC in PPPOE mode. And nothing you can do about it. Apple does not have any controls available to the outside world.

I got around it by using a modem router or another router between bridged modem and the TC.

In the end I put the TC in static IP mode and it worked very well with another router.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I have been using the same set up (bridge modem + TC routing) for the last two years or so without heavy issues (beside sporadic micro-cuts) and just wondering now: Why did it happen suddenly from one day to another? Is it related to 7.7.3 firmware? 7.7.3 update was released in March 2015... weird.

Hope Apple is monitoring this issue and working to solve it with a new firmware version otherwise the product is completely useless.

Thanks once again.

It is happening after one or two years to a lot of people.. I do not know why.

Full factory reset (both by the manual press the reset button, and via the software method) and try again..

No luck.. well sorry but life is strange.. the 8816 is very low end modem btw.. it has a lifespan of about 2 years.. plus ADSL is the very worst broadband in the reliability of it.. I know.. I am stuck on slow adsl since forever.

If you can borrow another modem that is easy to bridge I would do it.. NOT the Trendchip versions.. get a 8950N or 8960N which are broadcom and a lot more stable.

Worked fine until recently, now can't back up to Time Capsule and slow, slow, slow internet speeds. This needs to be fixed soon!

The reliability of TC has definitely gone down.. there is likely to be a DNS issue.. Apple has been trying to do peer to peer network and it is causing issues for loads of people.

For both of you.. bridge the TC and put another router in front of it.. not apple fixes a lot of issues.

I am having the same problem. My Airport extreme is wired directly from my cable modem. All of a sudden it is not hooking up to the websites or takes along time. This is the same wirelessly or ethernet connected. My download speed test is 27-29kbps which is the same as I always had.

Also running 7.7.3 version

I have a motorola Arris surfboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem
