Q: Locked after Hard Drive Change

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone could give me some guidance, last week the hard drive on my 2010 iMac entered the world of the dead, no problem I thought drives are cheap and easy to replace, I bought a new drive and used another mac to create an El Cap boot up USB, swapped the drivers over and was expecting football and marriage bliss from a gratefully wife, but Apple had different ideas. As there is no OS on the new drive I tried to boot with the “option” and “command + R”, but all of these low level request are met with a padlock and password request. I’ve tried my administration password, not accepted, Apple ID password, not accepted.............. I generally only use a few different password but none are accepted.

Can anyone advise how I can get around this?

For information, if my only option is to take the Imac to a service centre, as its 6 years old the only proof of purchase is via Itunes, anyone know if this is acceptable?

Many thanks

iMac, iOS 9.2
