Q: Can I load my entire iMessage conversations on a new device?

I disabled my iMessages on my MacBook when someone borrowed it and now that I've enabled it again, all my conversations delete when I click on the conversation. They are still on my phone and iPad. Am I able to load all these old conversations back on my MacBook?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

    Hi,

    No.

Once the device is disconnected it will only get older iMessages for a few days (I have seen one post stating 11 days and another 9 days. I have known it be 7 myself).

There does appear to be a Time Limit for the device to play Catch Up.

If iMessages is turned off on an iPhone then the Number will de-register after a while.

This will eventually have a knock on effect on the " sync" between the iPhone Number and devices linked via th Apple ID.

Each device logs in and i identified by it's Serial Number ans well as the Login info.

The iMessages Servers effectively "copy" the iMessage for each device it is sent to.

Once accepted the iMessages is deleted.

This means the Mac can only get the "Mac copy" so to speak.

Once on the iPhone or Mac the files are incompatible with the devices of the other sort.

Once a device re-registers it will get only the iMessages from that date.

The ones in between are gone and not recoverable.
