I downloaded two movies. They show up in my rented section in iTunes. They will not show up in the iPad to be able to transfer to the iPad

Movie rentals, unlike purchases, can only be playing on the device (or computer) used to rent it. Probably a restriction imposed by the content creators. If you want to watch a movie rental on iPad, you need to use the iPad to rent (and download) it.
If you rented it on your Mac, you can sync it to your device. If you rented it on another iOS device, you cannot move it to any other location:
If you rented the movie on your computer, but want to watch it on an iOS device, connect the devices and sync using USB. When you move a rented movie from your computer, it will disappear from your computer’s iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as often as you want, but you can only have it on one device at a time.
If you rented the movie on your iOS device or Apple TV, you can’t move it to any other device.
