For everybody experiencing problems with the address bar: disabling the Safari Suggestions in Preferences -> Search and restarting Safari has solved it for me. Maybe there's a problem with the servers providing the information for the Safari Suggestions right now or something like that.

I am getting this problem. I thought I had a virus. So I reformatted my mac. This is what I'm getting with the address bar. Just to be sure I downloaded Mozilla Firefox.
This also works for those encountering a strange but with the "Enter / Return" key not working when trying to enter a URL manually.

This works for me too. Seems that only "Safari suggestions" don't works. I hope that Apple fix it soon.
This fix also worked for me. iMac running Yosemite 10.10.5 and Safari 9.0.3.
