Jan 27, 2016 11:49 AM in response to chainzzby Skipalami,Fixed mine also. Curiously other accounts on my MBP don't seem to be affected. Also if you have safari suggestion ON and you select in private browsing the address bar still works properly.
A good fix, now we turn to Apple for a solution...

I did the following steps from this post then force quit safari, restarted reenabled suggested searches and it all worked as normal.
2. Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
3. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
Click “Remove All Website Data”.
