How do I copy old tapes from a Sony CCD-TRV56E camcorder onto my MacBookPro (2012) or iMac (Yosemite)?
Looking to back up my old camcorder tapes onto my Mac for editing and longer term storage for the family. Having trouble as to exactly how to do this and any specific equipment required. Any help gratefully appreciated.
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

and Googling it appears yo have tow options:
- Use a video capture adopter on the Mac and play the video on the camera and record on the Mac.
- Get a cassette player for the tape the camcorder makes and import form the player.
Your camera is not supported by iMovie
Thanks for the suggestions. Is there any video capture adapter that you might recommend which is good but not too expensive? For most of them that I have just looked at I would need to buy an extra 'male' to 'male' 3 pin phono-video adapter lead to fit in the camera ports and link to the video capture adapter.

Note that resolution 640x480 max.
Higher resolution ones cost more and use Thunderbolt on the computer
