Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone. It sounds like you have been on the right track in your troubleshooting. If you are seeing the Connect to iTunes icon screen and are having issues restoring from iTunes, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful (apologies if you have already seen them, and/or if this is what you meant by "using their suggestions"):

Jan 30, 2016 8:07 AM in response to brenden dvby CrisPcritter,Having the same issue. Here's another one: iOS 9.2 update freezes iPhone 4S; Won't connect to iTunes I've seen a number of these now, all 4S' trying to update to 9.2.1, all have updated OS versions, Win and Mac, same with iTunes. All display the same characteristic locking in restore mode or a rebooting Apple logo. The phone does not respond to any button activity except moving between the boot cycle and restore mode. In restore mode, iTunes starts the update/restore process and errors about 2/3 of the way through as indicated on the iPhone display. iTunes gives an error 29. I've tried on both Win and Mac platforms, all fully updated, all firewalls and AV software services disabled, all outbound ports open on the router, no change. This has to be a common occurence as I keep seeing it on blogs and here. I'm not satisfied with having to update to a new IOS for security enhancements and to support new apps and then having my phone bricked.

Feb 26, 2016 7:49 AM in response to imodztechby CrisPcritter,Thought that was a bit strange since I'd never had issues with the battery and the phone was only 14 months old. But I found an OEM battery and tool kit under $15 and so I ordered it. Took the phone apart to install the new battery and the terminals on the old one had the the start of corrosion on them. Cleaned it up, installed the new battery, and tried the update. No bueno. Restarted the PC, reconnected the phone and voila! it worked! Thanks for the tip!
