    Hello Vicky Jadoon,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that Launchpad is no longer opening as expected on your Mac. How are you attempting to launch Launchpad? Are you using they keyboard key, using the Dock icon, or pinching together your thumb-and-three-fingers in gesture as described in the following article?

To open Launchpad and quickly access your apps:

    • Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock.
    • Press the launchpad key on your keyboard if present.
    • Pinch together your thumb-and-three-fingers in gesture on your trackpad.

You can also try and open Finder and select Applications from the sidebar and try to launch Launchpad from there. Please let us know if the results are the same or differ based on how you try to open Launchpad.

To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest starting in safe mode. Once in safe mode, try to open Launchpad. If it works as expected, restart your computer as described in the next article and test in your main user account again.

OS X El Capitan: Start up in safe mode

If the issue continues in safe mode, the next step would be to try and isolate the user account. Create a new test user account and try to open Launchpad. Please let us know the results so we can continue to assist you in resolving this situation.
