Jan 27, 2016 10:31 AM in response to spacebearby rkaufmann87,Sometimes the SMC needs to be reset 2-3 times to work. Please try resetting again.
There is no such thing as standard OS, please be specific such as " I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 installed on the 2010 27" iMac."

Jan 28, 2016 3:56 PM in response to spacebearby spacebear,I reset a couple times. It starts out normal but after about an hour, the fan kicks on again. Any other suggestions on keeping this running cooler?

Jan 28, 2016 4:03 PM in response to spacebearby rkaufmann87,Your computer may have a hardware issue such as a defective fan sensor or fan. You can run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode, however in order to get any useful results you need to run it up to 3 times because it does miss problems. However when they show up, the errors are accurate. If you are not familiar with AHT please look over Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support
