How is Apple currently identifying songs in my own local PC collection to add to online Apple Cloud Music Library?

How is Apple currently identifying songs in my own local PC collection to add to online Apple Cloud Music Library? Last time I tried a few months back, mismatching was rampant, so I quit before the uploading songs finished.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2, iTunes latest with PC
