It depends on what your existing RSS feed is.

Some services you can add an iTunes new feed tag - others allow you to put in 301 or .htaccess redirect.

ideally for iTunes you want to have an iTunes new feed tag either in your old feed or redirect your old feed to a new feed and have it in the new feed.

What is your iTunes store page URL or your show title in iTunes now?

My client has recently changed website platforms and we have a new XML feed for our podcast, which needs to be updated.

iTunes Store URL https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/audio-sermons-at-glendale/id733032556?mt=2

Old Feed URL http://glendalecitychurch.org/component/podcastmanager/?format=raw&feedname=1

New Feed URL http://glendalecitychurch.org/feed/?post_type=sermon

NOTE: The Old Feed URL no longers exists as it was deleted when the website crashed in December. However, the same XML file is feeding into Feedburner at http://feeds.feedburner.com/glendalecitysda/rvke?format=xml.

Hello,

It looks like iTunes is using the feed:

http://glendalecitychurch.org/index.php/component/podcastmanager/?format=raw&fee dname=1?n=100

As Rob mentioned:

ideally for iTunes you want to have an iTunes new feed tag either in your old feed or redirect your old feed to a new feed and have it in the new feed.

Since you can't add the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag in your old feed, contact your web host and ask them to setup a 301 redirect from:

http://glendalecitychurch.org/index.php/component/podcastmanager/?format=raw&fee dname=1?n=100

to

http://glendalecitychurch.org/feed/?post_type=sermon

The next time the iTunes Store or a subscriber's Podcast app checks your old URL, they should be permanently redirected to the new URL.

The feed does not have to exist. Your web host can assist you in setting up a "301 Redirect", so that when people request the old feed url from your website, they will be redirected to the new feed.

I'm guessing here, but it seems your web host is Lunar Pages. I recommend getting in touch with your web host support team for help. If you want to do it yourself, they discuss setting up a 301 redirect here:

http://wiki.lunarpages.com/Redirect_Pages_in_cPanel

Think of a 301 redirect like a telephone operator:

  1. People call your old telephone number that doesn't exist (They try to access old feed URL)
  2. The operator tells people the new number- "this number has changed" (your website redirects them)
  3. People are connected to the new phone number (they are redirected to the new feed).

No,

As soon as a subscriber's app contacts your feed, they will be redirected. You may have subscribers who are travelling the world and have devices that are not online. Once they are back in range, their app will contact your feed. Thus, it is a good idea to keep the redirect working for several weeks to make sure all your subscribers have been redirected.
