Q: Lost File In Music Memos

Hello there,

As a musician I was overjoyed to see the release of Music Memos, but I've recently had a very strange snafu with the files inside the app.

I recorded a few memos the other night and went back to listen to them and was very satisfied with the results. Then, today, when I logged into music memos to send the file to my friend I got a message "The file "output.xyz" doesn't exist." when I tried to export the song. All of the chord changes are still there, as is the length of the song, but strangely the waveform does not show up. When I play another music memo and then come back and try to play this one file, the other music memo (the one I just played) plays instead, and I cannot pause the song unless I go back to the other music memo and pause it there.

I really have no idea what's going on here. Did my file mysteriously delete itself?? Is there any way to recover my file or is it gone forever?

Thanks for the help,

J

Here is a screen shot. Please note that the waveform displayed is not from the track I selected, but as I explained above is from a different track.

I've had this same problem, and your picture confirms what I think went wrong with our files: recordings can't have slashes in their names for some reason. I've recorded many sketches of songs in time signatures other than 4/4, and whenever I included the time signature in the name of the song I would face this exact same situation (particularly: "When I play another music memo and then come back and try to play this one file, the other music memo [...] plays instead, and I cannot pause the song unless I go back to the other music memo and pause it there.")

Unfortunately I know of no way to undo this. Renaming the song does nothing. Apple will have to fix this bug at some point. But at least you know for the future not to put slashes in song names in this app.
