Q: iPhone 6s iOS 9.2.1 makes random notification noise (tri-tone) when there are no new messages or notifications

iPhone 6s iOS 9.2.1 makes random notification noise (tri-tone) when there are no new messages or notifications. This happens around 3-5 times a day and I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or has any solution for me?

    Greetings Wisgamer,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are randomly hearing the tri-tone alert on your iPhone several times a day and don’t know why. To begin troubleshooting, I would first suggest checking your notifications from Notification Center to see if you can identify what is causing these alerts.

The following article explains using Notification Center to see your notifications.

    Notifications

    iPhone, notifications

The Notifications view shows you alerts that you might have missed. To see the Notifications view, swipe left while on the Today view.

You can tap an alert in Notification Center to open the app. You can limit what appears on the Lock screen in Notification Center if you’re using a passcode. Learn how to set up a passcode on your device.

I have the same problem. Checked notification centre right away, but no new notification. I wonder if this is related to the iOS or hardware problem?
