Shuffle 4th gen not working at all - no light/not charging/won't show up on itunes.

First, make sure the plug on USB docking cable is fully inserted into the iPod's headphones jack, as shown in this document

iPod shuffle (4th generation): Not seen in iTunes - Apple Support

The fit can be tighter than expected. It should "click" into place.
